Overcoming Problems with Animation

A few main problems I had with animation:

  1. iPad lagging and files being too long

Because of all of the long videos, multiple animation files, and drawing layers, my iPad had begun to lag and slow down. Procreate also had a limit to how many layers there could be in one artwork, so that meant when I imported videos, they would be cut off at 5 seconds or so. I couldn't necessarily fix these problem, but what I did to ensure smoothness when animating was break down the longer footage into multiple shorter videos to animate. This made the animating experience much better and helped my program run smoother.

  1. Pencil running out of battery

Whilst this wasn't a huge problem, my iPad pencil was constantly running out of battery while animating, so during the scheduled days, I would charge the pencil beforehand. Making sure it was at 90% - 100% as to not delay the animating process too much.

  1. Reference

It was really hard to find reference vids with the specific camera angles I had in mind for majority of the shots and I wasn't that confident in just animating from imagination. So while I did use Youtube for one or two of the long shots, I ended up making of make my own with help from family, or just props like paper.
