Filming 2

I did my filming in the school office and art studio. Both involved actors and was done afterschool.

For the office filming, it was quite simple. I had planned for it to be done on Friday after school when everyone had left for lunch and the office was mostly empty. I requested for my actor to be in a suit and looking professional.

I had replaced the name on the office wall with BOSSMAN printed on A4. I thought the slightly absurd name aligned with the animated format. I also set dressed by adding a few more chairs in front of the office. Making sure that the mise-en-scene captured the mundane office. I was very wary of leaving space for Gary to be animated in.

For the shot of him going in, I kept it bright and full of light. For the shot of him coming out, I had turned off the lights inside the office, to visually express the disappointment Gary felt in that moment.

In terms of directing, it was very smooth. I told my actor what I wanted and we took about 5-6 shots for every movement to get the timing right for Gary to be animated walking in and out.

Filming in the art studio was a lot of fun. I did this on a Wednesday afterschool, knowing it would be empty. As I knew the space quite well and had a very clear storyboard, it was only a matter of filming. I had cleaned and set up certain spaces I wanted to use, like the tables and making sure certain paint bottles were at the front of the shelf. I had all the props I needed and just went straight into filming.

I didn't need that many shots with my actor as it was going to be a rotoscope animation, but because I had such a clear vision, it made it so much easier to direct.

I did the establishing shots at different timings of the day to show the change in the narrative timeline. I woke up at around 7 in the morning to get the morning establishing shot, it worked out real
